This comes close on the heels of the Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality permanently shutting down a supermarket in Al Khor for operating without a licence last week.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said in a press statement on Sundday that the director of Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality, Juma Khamis al-Muraikhi, issued an administrative decision to permanently close down a supermarket in the Simaisma farm complex area for operating without a proper licence.

The Health Inspection Section at the municipality carried out a search at the supermarket in co-ordination with the Al Khor and Al Thakira Wildlife Unit, the Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Investigation Department and Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya). An administrative decision was issued to shut down the place and the matter was referred to the departments concerned to complete the necessary legal procedures.
The outlet was also issued with a number of violations for not abiding by necessary health regulations and flouting the stipulations of Law No 8 for 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control, as the food items on display did not have labels with the necessary information.
Meanwhile, the MME tweeted on Sunday evening that the civic authorities had shut down a cafeteria in Doha Industrial Area after it was found using expired foodstuff. Legal procedures have been initiated in the case.
Inspectors from the Health Control Section (Industrial Area) in the Municipal Control Department of Doha Municipality detected the violation. The cafeteria sold expired foodstuff by manipulating the expiry information, it was revealed.
The inspectors found that the cafeteria operators pasted stickers with false expiry dates on products that were already past their original expiry date. A violation was accordingly issued.
The crackdown comes as part of efforts undertaken by the civic authorities in Doha and beyond to ensure the compliance of retailers, food outlets and distributors with health and hygiene conditions in preparation for Eid al-Adha.
