More than 500 expats benefit from medical mission

More than 500 Qatar residents have benefited from a medical mission held at Barwa Al Baraha, Al Wukair in Doha recently, receiving various free medical treatments and services from volunteer doctors and nurses.
The event, dubbed as ‘One Mission, One Team, Our Legacy of Caring Continues,’ was organised by Helping, Empowering, Recognising OFWs [Overseas Filipino Workers]  (Hero-Qatar), in collaboration with the Filipino Medical Association-Qatar (FMA-Q), Philippine Nurses’ Association-Qatar, Philippine Association of Pharmacists in Doha, and with support from the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS).
Organisers also provided free vitamins and medicines such as antibiotics, antacid, aspirin, anti-allergy, and paracetamol, among others, to patients and those suffering from different illnesses such as fever, asthma, cough and hypertension.
The medical mission included ECG, blood pressure, blood sugar tests, and other services to beneficiaries, mostly workers at Strabag Zublin, employees from different companies, and Asian expatriates from Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi communities in the country.
Some 162 people from different Filipino organisations in Qatar, including 20 doctors from FMA-Q and QRCS, volunteered their services to this initiative, according to Hero-Qatar in a press statement.
Besides doctors, nurses from the United Care Nursing Medical Services, as well as volunteers from dozens of Filipino organisations, also took part in the annual event.
“This medical mission shows we also aim to reach out not only to distressed OFWs but also to people of other nationalities who are in need of medical treatment,” said Hero-Qatar president Kentry Ayson, who lauded the efforts of the participants, volunteers, and organisations in contributing to the success of the event.
Ayson’s statement was echoed by Hero-Qatar’s founding chairman Henry Dimaano saying they are looking forward to hold the event next year aimed at continuously helping more people who are in need of medical assistance.
Philippine labour attache David Des Dicang, who was guest of honour at the event, also described the medical mission a success with hundreds of people in Qatar given the opportunity to avail of free medical services.
He added that organisers are very appreciative of QRCS for sharing their time in providing various medical services to the beneficiaries.
Officials of the United Filipino Organisations in Qatar represented by its vice chairman Ressie Fos and secretary Delfin Montenegro, as well as Filipino restaurant managers and owners, also supported the event.
