'Sports For All Festival' attracts more visitors at Katara

The ‘Sports for All Festival’ at the Katara beach area (Gate number 14) is attracting an increasing number of people who want to spend their weekend with various water rides, beach activities and other games from 4pm to 9pm.

The event, organised by Qatar Sports For All Federation, in co-operation with the Qatar Tourism Authority, Katara and Qatar Sailing and Marine Sports Federation, offers inflatable rides and play area, volleyball games, and jets skis, among others every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the whole month of September.

“We received a good response from the public from the start and we expect more people to come and enjoy the activities here at the Katara beach,” one of the organisers told Gulf Times.

He said visitors, who usually come in groups, had the opportunity to experience “a one-of-a-kind adventure” this summer season with nearly a dozen activities and water rides at Katara.

He expressed optimism that the festival will soon become an annual event due to the positive feedback they get from residents and visitors.

Besides the thrill and excitement, he noted that the event also gives families a chance to bond in a unique, healthy and active environment. Entry is free to all.

Organisers hope to add more offerings in the future to entice more visitors, including those from other GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia.

The festival had also seen groups of people such as teachers, office staff, and sales persons, among others, trying one activity after another.

Irish national Darren Corbett, who works as a math teacher at Sabis International School, lauded the festival saying they enjoyed all the activities, including a swim.

“It is a lovely experience," he said. Corbett was seen playing volleyball with his colleagues and trying various inflatable water rides early afternoon yesterday.

Corbett and team also tried rowing, banana boat ride, and inflatable slides, which had seen long queues yesterday.

Organisers also provided several benches and area for those who prefer to relax and watch their families, friends, and other visitors participate in the activities.

Sharon, a Filipina expatriate, said she enjoyed the inflatable rides, jet ski, and games with her colleagues at the event.
