Food inspection teams to keep watch on eateries

Food inspection teams at Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality will work round-the-clock during Eid al-Adha holidays, it has been announced.
Juma Khamis al-Muraikhi, director, municipality, said the teams would remain active throughout the holiday period and be present across eateries, souqs and shopping complexes in the area. 
According to Mohamed Matar al-Kuwari, head, health inspection section, a health inspector will be posted at each shopping centre and he will be available for the public to lodge complaints, answer queries and report any incident of food poisoning. 
He also pointed out that inspection teams would be present at the vegetable, fruit and fish markets - operating in the morning and night shifts - to ensure the safety of the items on display.
Al-Kuwari said food inspection teams would also focus on examining slaughtered animals at abattoirs within the municipality during the Eid days. 
He called on people to get sacrificial animals slaughtered only at abattoirs to guarantee the safety of the carcass and fulfil the necessary conditions for public health, in addition to ensuring safe disposal of the remains.
Dr Ahmed Eid Shadi, a veterinarian at the health inspection section, inspections at the fish market will particularly focus on the early hours of the day, when fishermen display their fresh catch.
The Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality has also started implementing a system of stamping carcasses slaughtered at abattoirs within its jurisdiction for meat meant for sale within Qatar.
