Ashghal allocated QR32bn for infrastructure works

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) was allocated a budget of more than QR31.9bn in the 21 months between April 1, 2014 and December 31, 2015.

Total expenditure during this period amounted to over QR28.70bn, according to details available in Ashghal's recently-published annual report for 2015.

Of the total allotment, road works accounted for the lion's share at QR19.75bn, while spending amounted to QR17.5bn.

The report showed that the authority was allocated QR16bn in the 12 months between April 2014 and March 2015, and QR15.9bn in the nine months from April to December 2015, for different projects.

Giving a break-up of the total expenditure during the 21-month period, the report stated that spending amounted to QR15.01bn between April 2014 and March 2015, and QR13.72bn from April to December 2015.

According to the report, about QR3.20bn was allocated for drainage works between April 2014 and December 2015. The total spending was close to QR3bn.

The report further noted that around QR8bn was allotted for building projects in the 21-month period, with spending amounting to more than QR7.1bn.

Similarly, the allocation for assets affairs was QR1.29bn, while a total expenditure of QR1.03bn was recorded in the same period.

Meanwhile, projects worth QR29.84bn were awarded between April 2014 and December 2015. These included QR17.37bn worth of projects between April 2014 and March 2015 and QR12.47bn worth of projects between April and December 2015.

Road works accounted for a bulk of the projects awarded at a total of over QR16.8bn. Next came drainage projects at more than QR8.4bn worth of projects being awarded, followed by building projects at around QR4.37bn.
