Municipality in Al Khor set to develop fish market

The Municipality of Al Khor and Al Thakhira is set to develop the fish market and upgrade its services with special focus on the health and hygiene aspects.

Issa Hassan al-Mohannadi, director, municipal control affairs at Al Khor and Al Thakhira, stressed that the development of the fish market would take into consideration the future prospects of the city.

Matar Mohamed al-Kuwari, head, health control section, said that daily inspection is conducted on all stalls of the fish market by a specialist veterinarian to ensure the safety of the fish on display for human consumption. Such inspection and control covers the full duration of the working hours of the market.

More than 362 heads of livestock were slaughtered at the slaughterhouses of Al Khor and Al Thakhira. Routine veterinary inspection was done before and after the slaughter process on each animal and carcass. Four carcasses were destroyed on account of being infected with diseases. The slaughterhouses were thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated upon the conclusion of the working day in preparation for the following day's work.

The inspection campaigns conducted on the food outlets and facilities at the municipality resulted in issuing a health violation to an eatery at a park for the absence of valid health certificates for a worker, and not abiding by the necessary health and hygiene regulations.

Al Khor Family Park received an influx of visitors during the first two days of Eid holidays. The Municipality has taken all the necessary procedures to provide visitors with all the necessary amenities. The park is open for visitors from 8am until 10pm.
