Cultural events entertain visitors to Souq Waqif

The Eid al-Adha celebrations at Al Ahmed Square, Souq Waqif, in partnership with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), attracted a large number of people, the second day of the festivities.

The festivities that started on the first day of the Eid will continue until Friday. The programmes are from 4pm to 10.30pm daily.

The venue was thronged by families. The crowd also included several visitors from the other GCC countries and beyond.

A group of four visitors from two countries in Europe were seen enjoying the events. One of them said: “It is a nice experience for us and the location reflects traditional Arab culture. The alleyways and the shops selling special artifacts and other items, enlightens us about Qatar and the Arab world. We are happy that we are here.”

Several rides and special activities at the venue have attracted large number of children. There is a 'train' that takes them for a short ride. Pony and horse rides are also sought after.

Several traditional entertainment programmes are also being held at the venue. Many local artistes performed traditional Arabic songs and dances. There were also other local programmes depicting the spirit of Eid as well as the culture of the Arab world.

The eateries at the venue were swarmed with people as families came out in large numbers to try the traditional Arabic delicacies. Most of the restaurants had a long line of customers from evening as people flocked in to try different types of food.

Vendors at the location also registered brisk sale as families and visitors bought several souvenirs from the traditional souq. More people could be seen at shops that sell local items.
