The Pirates of the Caribbean, one of the exclusive family entertainment shows organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) until Sunday at Lagoona Mall, has been providing mall visitors with an exciting action-comedy theme.
“The process we use to get to this standard is very high,” said Joshua Hammond, who plays the role of pirate Barny. “The performers exert 100% effort into the show.”
He noted that the cast had trained in the UK, home of the West End where professionals, and young actors and actresses aspire to perform.
"These performers love to come to Qatar to see something different, particularly during the Eid celebrations, a time when residents and visitors throng the malls to watch the family entertainment shows."
While the artistes go through auditions in London, he said the best ones to perform in Qatar are picked.

About the audience, he said: “The past three days, they have been fantastic, whenever you talk to them they always respond, if we ask them to say ‘ahoy,’ they all shout ahoy, and they boo.” “They booed before I even say boo when they saw Medusa.”
He also observed that children who had watched the show in the previous days came back with their parents. “It is great to see them knowing and enjoying the show,” he added.
About the preparation, Hammond disclosed that they usually spend a month to practice, to write and rewrite scripts, music and the lyrics.
Besides Snow White, the team had also staged The Jungle Book and Cinderella in Qatar in previous years, during the Eid celebrations. All received a positive response from the public, he added.
“The best thing about this show is that the cast is like a family, so we always stay in contact, it is a big family group,” he said. “The process goes a lot quicker when you think alike.”
Hammond lauded QTA for coming up with a wide range of entertainment offerings, as well as to allow them to perform in Qatar.
Why Pirates? He said after staging fairy tales and The Jungle Book, they thought of coming up with a pirate show at Lagoona Mall that has never been shown before.
About plans to perform in bigger venues such as Katara – the Cultural Village, he said the idea would be a good goal.
“I hope one day we can perform at Katara. We would love to do it,” Hammond added.
