HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday met UK Prime Minister Theresa May at No 10 Downing Street, the official residence and office of the British premier.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a host of regional and international issues, especially developments in the Middle East region, most notably the situation in Syria and the need to lift the blockade and end the sufferings endured by the Syrian people. The need to stop the forced displacement of the Syrian people and the importance of activating international solutions and putting these into effect, also figured in the talks.
The meeting also discussed the issue of terrorism with its serious repercussions and worsening threat to the security and stability of the world, as well as the need to address the causes of this issue at both the regional and international levels.
At the outset of the meeting, the British premier welcomed HH the Emir, stressing that the visit was an important step in the development of bilateral relations in various fields. The prime minister added that Britain was looking forward to advancing co-operation between the two countries at various levels.
HH the Emir expressed pleasure at the meeting, pointing out that Qatari-British relations were strong, strategic and historic, and adding that the two countries have joint co-operation in various fields.
HH the Emir reiterated Qatar’s openness and keenness on promoting these relations.
HH the Emir and the UK prime minister discussed bilateral ties and means to further develop these in the fields of education, research, development, economy and investments in addition to the importance of utilising the investment and trade opportunities to cement the relations between the two nations and achieve their common interests.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir.
On the British side it was attended by a number of ministers.
