Many parents have been giving their children a holiday treat at various ‘exclusive family entertainment shows’ at major malls over the past few days.
The shows form part of the Eid al-Adha celebrations, themed as ‘Capture Joy,’ organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and its partners.
“After watching ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ at Ezdan Mall on Wednesday, we took the kids to Lagoona Mall for the ‘Pirates from the Caribbean,’ which was really fascinating,” said Brazilian expatriate Adriana, who was with her family at Dar Al Salam Mall yesterday, to enjoy the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ show.
She added that they are planning to visit Al Khor Mall today for the ‘Flying Super Kids’ show before heading to Al Khor Park, now becoming a favourite destination of many Qatar residents.
The seven-day shows provided what Adriana described as a “mega Eid al-Adha extravaganza” to a large number of families and children in the country and those from some of the neighbouring GCC countries.
“Many children know these fairy tales and good thing is that entry is free, so it entices many people to spend their holidays here than go elsewhere,” she added. “In some locations like The Pearl-Qatar, they even distribute free popcorn and ice cream.”
A staff at the ‘Pirates’ show echoed this statement saying they have also been receiving many foreign visitors especially from Saudi Arabia.
Organisers also give young spectators an opportunity to have pictures with the artistes during the “meet and greet” session.
Families and children will have the chance to watch the shows for the last time, including Tarzan (City Center Doha) and Sinbad the Sailor (performed in Arabic at Hyatt Plaza), today and tomorrow (Sunday) from 4pm to 9.30pm.
Other Eid celebrations at some venues such as Souq Waqif have also been attracting many visitors since the first day. Besides the amusement and water rides, the Souq features a series of Qatari cultural and traditional performances on stage, enthralling many spectators. The festival concludes today.
Local performers, both young and old, serenade the audience with Arab songs and dances using traditional musical instruments as many spectators take pictures and videos of the performance.
