Vodafone will help raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its network around the world during the ‘Global Goals Week’ set for September 17 to 24.
The SDGs or ‘Global Goals’ have been adopted by world leaders on September 25, 2015 at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in New York. These are a set of 17 goals aimed at ending poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change
by 2030.
“Vodafone’s purpose is to connect everybody to live a better today and build a better tomorrow and we are proud to be a delivery partner of the SDGs,” said Ian Gray, CEO, Vodafone Qatar.
“In our short seven year history in Qatar we have achieved a lot that directly supports the goals and are committed to bring our global expertise and innovation to Qatar to continue benefiting the local community and economy,” he added.
In Qatar, Vodafone will support the global awareness campaign with widespread social media communications, SMS to its customer base and by giving free mobile data access to the Global Goals website www.globalgoals.org and YouTube Channel during the week.
In addition, Vodafone will hold internal employee engagement activities to drive the delivery of the Global Goals.  
In Qatar, Vodafone spent QR1bn in the last 24 months on building a world class network infrastructure that supports the country’s aim to be a leading knowledge based economy.
Vodafone also recently embarked on a journey to reduce its environmental footprint through rolling out the first phase of its hybrid powered cell sites.
Year 2016 has also seen Vodafone bring a number of innovative solutions to Qatar such as the launch of its Global Machine to Machine Platform that enables the implementation of Internet of Things connectivity solutions.
Vodafone has also been supporting the empowerment of women for more than six years with its Al Johara female sales channel.  It was also the first telco in the region to provide its female staff with the best maternity benefits of 112 calendar days to increase the return to work and retention rates after maternity leave.
Vodafone also launched in 2014 its Falla youth programme which has benefitted more than 100,000.
