The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)'s agricultural quarantine offices inspected 6,182 cargoes of various agricultural products, weighing around 77,597 tonnes, in August.
Of this, 125 cargoes weighing 66.4 tonnes were destroyed for being infected with pests and violating agricultural quarantine regulations.
Besides, seven cargoes weighing around 68.7 tonnes, meant for re-export from Qatar, were inspected. Accordingly, health certificates were issued for them.
The offices that carried out the inspections are part of the Agriculture Affairs Department at the MME.
Meanwhile, the Public Cleaning Department in the ministry's Island and Beaches Section has conducted clean-up campaigns and removed a large quantity of discarded wooden planks from a road running parallel to the Abu Samra road. The planks are believed to have been dumped by truck drivers who rest in such areas at night.
The MME has called upon the drivers to avoid engaging in such unacceptable acts.
In related news, the Municipal Affairs Section at Umm Salal Municipality issued 35 violation reports in July and August. Three of these cases were resolved through reconciliation while the rest were referred to the North Security Department for necessary legal procedures.
Similarly, the Technical Control Section at the municipality issued 50 violations, 14 of which were resolved through reconciliation and 12 were referred to the North Security Department for legal action. The other cases are being processed.
Further, the Health Inspection Section issued 40 violations related to health regulations and 109 warnings during the same period. It reviewed seven complaints and conducted 370 field inspection tours.
The Al Daayan Municipality cleaning section removed 13 abandoned vehicles in August and conducted 4,836 pest control operations. It also drained out more than 20.4mn gallons of sewage water.
Patrols from the Al Sheehaniya wildlife unit detected a violation, wherein debris was dumped in an undesignated area. Necessary legal procedures were initiated against the violator.
