Qatar Cool, Doha’s premier provider of district cooling and one of the largest cooling providers in the region, will be commissioning a third plant in the West Bay district next year.
The new cooling plant is designed to have a capacity of 40,000 tonnes of refrigeration, the company announced yesterday in connection with its 10th anniversary.
It was in September 2006 that Qatar Cool’s first cooling plant made its debut in West Bay as the first large scale district cooling system in the country.
Qatar Cool’s second cooling plant in the district became operational in 2009, with a cooling capacity of 37,000 tonnes of refrigeration to meet the growing demand.  The growth of the West Bay district over the last decade has warranted the construction of the third plant.
If more than 30 towers signed to the district cooling solution in the West Bay over the first few years, to date the two operational plants serve more than 53 towers with a cooling capacity of 67,000 tonnes of refrigeration. It is estimated that the number of connected towers is to increase by 26% once the third plant is operational.
