A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a young GCC citizen to six months in jail, and imposed a fine of QR50,000 on him, for accidentally killing a person and driving a vehicle without a valid driving licence.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the court also ordered him to pay 70% of the blood money due to the kin of the deceased, amounting to QR140,000.
On the day of the accident, the defendant took his father’s vehicle - which did not have insurance coverage - and drove it at a high speed on an internal road.
An accident had taken place on the same road, involving a vehicle that had overturned due to stunt driving, the daily reported. The occupants - two brothers - were not injured, though. A third car was also parked at the spot to ensure that passing vehicles did not hit the overturned car. However, when the defendant reached the site, he accidentally hit one of the brothers, causing him severe injuries that resulted in his death.
The court found that both parties were partly responsible for what had happened. The victim’s family had asked for a compensation of QR22mn.
