Doha: Abdul Samad slammed an unbeaten 100 to guide Doha Falcon Cricket Club (DFCC), an A Division club affiliated with the Qatar Cricket Association, to an easy win over Swedish side Evergreen in the final of the third Pepsi Cup Prague 2016.
Led by Adnan Khan, DFCC made their international Twenty20 cricket bow in the Prague event, which took place from September 8 to 11.
Batting first, Evergreen, a Swedish team, made 172 all out in 20 overs with Upul and Rizwan bagging three wickets each. Ahmed picked a brace. DFCC had a flying start through openers Samad and Upul Bandara and the pair sealed the win in 14.4 overs. Bandara cracked a stylish 64 not out and Samad was aptly declared the Man of the Final.
DFCC were thrilled with the triumph and said: “We’re delighted with the success. We’re also proud to have contributed towards promoting Qatar sports and more specifically, cricket, abroad. DFCC faced clubs of five different countries – Czech XI, Evergreen from Sweden, Iceland CC, Winterthur CC, Geneva XI from Switzerland.
In all, DFCC figured in seven matches and clinched six of them, including the semi-final and the final. The DFCC squad consisted of Adnan Khan (captain), Nafaiz, Raju, Abdul Samad, Zaheer, Qamar, Ahmed, Upul Bandara, Younas, Rizwan, Adnan G and Vishal.
