The strength of the school bus fleet of Mowasalat, the government run transport company, has reached almost 2,300, with launch of 150 new buses at the Karwa Training Centre at Abu Hamour.
Mowasalat buses transport students and staffers of the Independent Schools across Qatar, under arrangement with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi, Mowasalat chairman Nasser bin Mohamed al-Malki, managing director Khalid Nasser al-Hail and Traffic Depaartment Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji were present at the launch function of the new buses.
It was announced on the occasion that the buses, painted in a new orange and white colour scheme instead of the earlier turquoise colour, would adhere to the highest international safety and security standards for transportation of students.
While thanking the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for choosing Mowasalat for ferrying children between their homes and schools, al-Malki said its continued support would prompt the transport company to improve its services further.
The chairman said Mowasalat has grown over the years to become the preferred choice provider of innovative transport solutions and services due to the improvements in adopting the highest safety and security standards.
Al-Hail recalled that Mowasalat signed the agreement with the educational authorities for transporting school children more than 10 years ago and the company is focusing more now on children's safety and security while they are being transported.
The new buses introduced as part of the fleet expansion are of varying sizes and different capacities, ranging between 15 and 40 seats.
