Qatar Charity (QC) has said this year’s 'Your Udhias, their Eid' campaign, during which sacrificial meat is distributed to the faithful and the needy, reached about 1mn beneficiaries around the world.

Some 500 tonnes of beef and mutton were distributed during the Eid al-Adha days, especially in Arab countries facing “exceptional circumstances”, with the project costing over QR13mn.

Faisal al-Fahida, executive director of operations, expressed relief at the success of the udhias project, which was implemented in 37 countries.

The project brought happiness for many needy families and their children, especially those forced to migrate because of their situation, such as Syrians, Iraqi, and Yemenis, as well as people suffering from poverty, blockade, unemployment and hard living circumstances, such as Palestinians, Somalis and others, it was observed.

Al-Fahida expressed gratitude to those who donated through QC’s 'Your Udhias, their Eid' campaign, pointing out that the initiative touched the hearts of about 1mn beneficiaries and brought happiness to their families.

Other QC projects implemented during Eid al-Adha included clothes distribution

“The number of udhias exceeded our expectations by 3,000, which proves the engagement of our donors and their trust in QC,” al-Fahida said.

The project was implemented in countries across Asia, Africa and Europe.

“Having offices in more than 25 countries contributed significantly to the project’s success. It ensured the quality and speed of the implementation and access to the most vulnerable,” the official said.

Cattle sacrificed during the campaign aggregated 27,044 sheep and cows, QC said in a statement.

Besides distribution of meat, the campaign included projects such as covering Haj expenses, providing hospitality for pilgrims, and distribution of Eid clothes within and outside Qatar, implemented at a total cost of QR23mn.

QC was able to distribute 3,000 udhias locally, for the benefit of more than 14,400 people, including widows, orphans and low-income families, at a cost of QR1.4mn.

Also, QC distributed Eid clothing among orphans and children from poor families in Qatar during Eid al-Adha, which cost more than QR500,000.

It also carried out special initiatives such as a pilgrim awareness activity at Gulf Mall, Al Khor Mall and Lagoona Mall.
