HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has met with the Prime Minister of the government of National Accord of Libya, Fayez al-Sarraj, on the sidelines of the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The Foreign Minister stressed during the meeting Qatar’s support for the Libyan political agreement and the government of National Accord chaired by the Presidential Council.
On Thursday, speaking at a ministerial meeting called by the US, Italy, prime minister of Libya and personal representative of the UN secretary-general on Libya, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdulrahman renewed Qatar’s support to Libya’s government of national accord.
The Foreign Minister also took part in a high-level ministerial meeting on Syria, chaired by the US secretary of state and the Russian foreign minister.
The meeting discussed mechanisms of ceasefire, activating the humanitarian truce and reviving political consultations.
The Foreign Minister has participated in a ministerial meeting, which was called by Qatar, Tunisia and France, held under the slogan, “Tunisia: reforms and investment opportunities”.
The meeting, held in New York on the sidelines of the 71st session of the General Assembly, highlighted the initiative presented by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and President Beji Caid Essebsi in support of Tunisia.
The initiative calls for an international conference to support the economy and investment in Tunisia.
The Foreign Minister, at the meeting, stressed Qatar’s interest in holding this conference, based on its desire to stand with the people of Tunisia, and to provide all conditions that would strengthen the capacity of Tunisia to overcome temporary economic conditions it has been experiencing at the present time.
The Foreign Minister has also participated in a special side event on digitisation of United Nations documents, which was organised by the permanent mission of the State of Qatar to the UN.
Qatar has pledged a total project cost of $5mn, in order to preserve the institutional memory of the United Nations and the historical legacy of more than 70 years.
