More than 740 families have benefited from Qatar Charity’s (QC) social aid, delivered within the country in the first half of 2016 at a total cost of around QR14.7mn.
The aid provided by the Department of Social Welfare, Executive Management of Local Development at QC, was used to pay the dues of debtors, release a number of prisoners and offer a helping hand for their families, provide therapy to patients, furnish houses with basic needs, provide living expenses for low-income families, help widows, divorcees, the elderly and people with special needs and provide Ramadan food and emergency assistance, Qatar Charity said in a press statement.
Debtors and prisoners received the lion’s share of the aid, valued at QR5.5mn. Some 56 individuals and families have benefited from the aid and 20 prisoners were released.
A sum of QR3.9mn was allocated for helping patients, and the initiative saw 72 beneficiaries. In addition, QR2.1mn was allotted for helping 113 needy and low-income families to provide them with monthly assistance, while QR1mn was allocated for helping
divorcees and their families.
Meanwhile, about 123 individuals and families benefited from aid for which QR2.5mn were allocated. The largest share of the aid was distributed in the month of Ramadan for several reasons, including the launch of Al Aqrabun initiative, meeting people’s needs during the holy month and implementing other social projects.
In the statement, CEO of QC’s Department of Local Development Ali Atiq al-Abdullah stressed two key aspects: social welfare, which includes providing assistance to debtors, low-income persons, widows, patients and others; and helping carry out projects, activities and events for families and individuals to develop their abilities in various fields.
Al Aqrabun is a Qatari charitable initiative, pertaining to humanitarian work. Through this initiative, a group of prominent and influential people in the Qatari society as well as some social activists provided support to low-income families in Qatar and supported them psychologically and financially. Some 200 individuals and families benefited and about QR1.7mn were allocated to them.
