The Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Alwi Shihab, yesterday stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Qatar in all economic sectors.
He was speaking during a meeting between businessmen from the two countries held at Qatar Chamber aimed at developing co-operation and in particular ways to enhance trade ties between Qatari and Indonesian private sector.
Dr Shihab stressed the important role which could be played by the Qatar and Indonesian trade bodies in achieving convergence between businessmen in the two countries and engaging in effective partnerships that would serve the interest of their economies.
He called on Qatari businessmen to invest in his country and invited them to actively participate in the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia 2016 and the Islamic Forum due to be held in Jakarta in October.
For his part, Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar al-Kuwari, said QC encourages Qatari businessmen to promote co-operation and exchange experiences with their Indonesian counterparts thanks to the stable investment climate in both countries.
In this context, he praised the historic ties between Qatar and Indonesia, pointing to the investment opportunities announced by the president of Indonesia during his recent visit to Qatar which would open new prospects for future co-operation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation made a presentation on the investment climate and opportunities in Indonesia and the most important sectors in which Qatari businessmen can invest.
The visiting delegation also made a presentation on Indonesia Trade Fair 2016, which will showcase the best Indonesian export products ranging from industrial, mining, agricultural to craft sectors.
The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and Indonesia has risen over to $1.6bn while Qatari exports of oil and natural gas rose to $1.2bn.
