The UCI Road World Championships Doha 2016 Organising Committee yesterday formalised an agreement with Aspetar as the Official Medical Services Provider.
The agreement-signing ceremony was attended by UCI Road World Championships Doha 2016 Organising Committee chairman Sheikh Khalid bin Ali al-Thani and Aspetar’s acting director general Dr. Mohamed Ghaith al-Kuwari.
Speaking about the upcoming UCI Road World Championships, Sheikh Khalid said, “We are about to embark on another impressive step in Qatar’s journey in sport. The world’s top cyclists will descend on Doha, where we will be the centre of the world of cycling for more than a week. During this time, we will show thousands of riders, delegates and fans our famous brand of Qatari hospitality.”
He added: “An integral part of our preparation is ensuring the safety and health of the world’s best cyclists. Qatar is home to some of the most advanced sports medicine facilities in the world, with Aspetar playing a key role in the continued development of sport in Qatar. Aspetar will provide competing athletes with medical care by some of the world’s best sports medicine experts. Aspetar’s services will be present at all races at this year’s UCI Road World Championships.”
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. al-Kuwari said, “We’d like to thank the Championship’s organising committee for placing such great confidence in Aspetar’s capabilities. As we sign this agreement today, Aspetar is ready to deploy all its capabilities to ensure the continued success of this major international event. We are ready.”
This year’s UCI Road World Championships will see more than 5,700 athletes and delegates during the Championships.
Meanwhile, Aspetar will be providing a minimum of 17 experienced medical staff, including sports medicine specialists and emergency medical technicians and ambulances. Aspetar will also be providing a medical stand equipped with the latest medical technology for emergency diagnosis and intervention procedures, should they be necessary.
