A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Kenyan man to one year in jail and ordered his subsequent deportation for theft, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Wednesday.
The court convicted the defendant of stealing two mobile phones including their SIM cards, and a sum of QR2,500 from the hand bag of a woman. At the time of the incident, the woman was having dinner at a hotel restaurant, and left her handbag and mobile phones on the table unattended when she went to the toilet.
She filed a complaint with the police, who reviewed the recording of the surveillance cameras of the restaurant and spotted the defendant. It turned out that he had committed similar thefts in previous occasions. The two phones were recovered from him when he was arrested.
