IMIA delegates visit Khalifa International Stadium

Delegates attending the 49th International Association of Engineering Insurers (IMIA) Conference in Doha have visited the construction site of Khalifa International Stadium, redeveloped by Midmac Contracting Qatar, and the Energy Centre by Galfar Al Misnad Engineering and Contracting.

The conference, organised by IMIA in collaboration with Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company under the patronage of Qatar Central Bank, is to be held from today until October 5.

Prior to their ground visit to the stadium, the delegates attended a presentation of the project. Mansoor al-Muhannadi, project manager of Khalifa International Stadium, accompanied the delegates who were able to witness the progress of work on the site, which is taking place in keeping with the schedule and includes a new arch that will support the new east wing roof.

The delegates were impressed with the safety measures and also given a full illustration of the new technology to be used for the air cooling of the stadium, according to a press statement.

Upon completion, the new Khalifa International Stadium complex will involve a retail area and VIP/corporate zones, which will be linked to the new Qatar Olympic and Sport Museum.

The Energy Centre will not only serve Khalifa International Stadium but also other Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) venues. The aim of the energy centre is to centralise the cooling infrastructure, offsetting the need for separate rooms in each building within AZF. Consequently, the centre brings in about 40% improved energy efficiency and 20% life-cycle cost savings, the statement notes.

More than 110 delegates and guests from over 30 countries are participating in the conference.
