At least 1mn people from the Syrian city of Aleppo and its countryside have benefited from relief projects worth QR17mn implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) over the past six months.
In a press release yesterday, Qatar Charity said the projects included sectors of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, shelters and non-food items.
Health projects included the provision of a number of ambulances, medicines and supplies, support for medical staff and the renovation of a number of hospitals.
The relief projects included also the distribution of infant formula for nearly 8,500 children in Aleppo, food baskets, ready meals, flour as well as Ramadan food baskets along with running a number of bakeries such as the mobile bakery for Syrian displaced in Jarablos and Killis which provided bread for 350,000 people.
Qatar Charity also distributed water tanks and containers, hygiene baskets, blankets, mattresses, clothing, cooking utensils and other household items.
QC director, Relief Management, Mohamed Rashid al-Kaabi, said this aid from Qatari benefactors is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Aleppo’s residents who face severe shortage of food, baby milk and basic services.
These relief projects reflect QC’s keenness to secure daily food requirements of residents trapped inside Aleppo he said.
He urged Qatari and resident donors to continue to support QC’s’ Relieve Aleppo’ campaign, which was launched in May at a cost of QR10mn to cover the needs of 20,000 people.
