Education key to development, says minister

HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi yesterday said Qatar gives great importance to human development thanks to the country’s wise leadership, and referred to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s stress on the role of human element in the development.
Al-Hammadi told a roundtable, which brought together ministers from around the world for the 13th edition of the Science and Technology in Society Forum which started in Kyoto yesterday, that Qatar has established many schools, universities, colleges, research and training centres that contributed in developing human resources and encouraging young people in their quest to meet Qatar’s development needs.
In his speech on “ the role of human development in Qatar to build society of future,” al-Hammadi said Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 prioritises human development and it aims at raising capable and motivated Qatari citizens who actively take part in the economic, social and political life.
The progress and development of society has become dependent on citizens’ interaction with the new world order which is based on knowledge, research, technology and innovation, al-Hammadi said, pointing out that such a goal could only be achieved through educational systems at all levels.
He also stressed that achieving positive economic, scientific and social results depend on the existence of an educational system which meets the various needs of the society and the labour market.
Al-Hammadi stressed the importance of implementing the latest technical and technological developments in the field of education; encouraging creativity and innovation and promoting scientific research skills.
