More outlets shut down for flouting regulations

More commercial and food outlets in the country have been shut down - temporarily as well as permanently - for flouting regulations.

Al Sheehaniya Municipality has permanently shut down a grocery for operating without the required licence, while Doha Municipality has temporarily closed two violating restaurants in the Rawdat Al Khail and Najma areas, according to information available on the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)'s Twitter page.

Mohamed Saif al-Hajri, director of Al Sheehaniya Municipality, issued an administrative decision on the closure of the errant grocery, the MME said in a statement. Inspectors from the Health Control Section of the municipality took the necessary steps to enforce the closure.

Meanwhile, Doha Municipality director Jamal Matar al-Nuaimi issued administrative decisions to close a restaurant in Rawdat Al Khail for 10 days and another eatery in Najma for 30 days for violations such as preparing food in unhygienic conditions and storing food unfit for human consumption, according to the MME.

Joint inspection: Officials from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Ministry of Economy and Commerce conducted a comprehensive joint inspection campaign at the Central Market yesterday.

The initiative fell within the framework of co-operation between the two ministries, according to a press statement.

The joint campaign was carried out by inspectors from the General Control Section at the Municipal Control Department, Doha Municipality, and the Quality Licence and Market Control Department (Markets Section), MEC.

Ali al-Hajri, head of General Control, said the joint campaign was the result of meetings and co-ordination between Doha Municipality and the Quality Licence and Market Control Department to develop a joint working mechanism to monitor markets in the public interest.
