Special traffic, transport arrangements for cycling event on Sunday

The road from Lusail towards The Pearl-Qatar will be closed from 1.30pm until 5pm on Sunday and traffic will be diverted to alternative roads, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced as part of its updates for the UCI 2016 Road World Championships – Doha 2016.

Motorists coming from Al Khor via Al Khor Coastal Road will have to take a diversion from the Simaisma bridge towards the old Shamal Road. In addition to this, roads from the Katara signal to The Pearl-Qatar and from West Bay to Katara will also be closed.

The organising committee has arranged for alternative facilities to reach The Pearl-Qatar, which include a shuttle bus service from Doha Exhibition Centre and Katara as well as a water taxi service from Katara.

For internal transportation within The Pearl-Qatar, residents and visitors can use golf carts during the road closure.

In a statement, the MoI urged the public to co-operate with security personnel and the event’s organisers.

The cycling event will continue until October 16.
