Qatar University College of Arts & Sciences (QU-CAS) student Shamma al-Kuwari has won the regional winner award of the Undergraduate Awards (UA) 2016 Programme for her paper titled “A Comparison of Early Illustrations of George Herbert’s ‘The Altar’ with English Architecture”.
Shamma al-Kuwari, fifth year English Literature and Linguistics student, presented the highest performing paper in the Africa and the Middle East region in the English literature category.
The Undergraduate Awards received a record number of submissions for its 2016 programme with a total of 5,514 papers of undergraduates from 244 institutions in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Island of Ireland, Latin America, Middle East, Oceania, USA and Canada. The global winner is the highest-performing paper within its category and the regional winners are the highly commended papers from their region within a category.
Shamma al-Kuwari said, “The origins of the paper started as a small in-class assignment in an upper level English class and grew when I conducted my capstone. I received excellent one-on-one supervision that helped me shape a paper. I was encouraged to participate in the Undergraduate Awards 2016 Programme and I am delighted to have performed so well in the competition. I am truly grateful for the support provided by
Qatar University.”
The Undergraduate Awards is the world’s largest international academic awards programme, recognising excellent research and original work across the sciences, humanities, business and creative arts. Highly commended entrants are invited to meet their fellow awardees at the annual UA Global Summit which will take place in Dublin, Ireland from November 8-11.
