Colombian Fernando Gaviria won the historic Paris-Tours one-day classic race yesterday.
The Etixx-Quick Step rider pipped Frenchman Arnaud Demare and Belgium’s Jonas Van Genechten in a sprint finish at the end of the 252.5km race from the outskirts of Paris to Tours.
The race first took place in 1896, making it one of the oldest in the world.
Gaviria, 22, succeeded Etixx teammate Matteo Trentin as the one-day classic’s champion.
He is best known for his track prowess having won the omnium world title the last two years, although he failed to get a medal at August’s Olympic Games in Rio.
