The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) conducted a workshop to train health professionals to conduct the national campaign of immunisation against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), from October 17 to November 14.
The campaign targets the immunisation of children aged one year and up to 13 years.
Around 255 health practitioners working at government and private health facilities and other entities concerned took part in the workshop.
Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, MoPH Director of Public Health Department, said that such a campaign is an opportunity to protect the society against these diseases and eradicate them.
He stressed that the low rates of infection with MMR in Qatar affirm that eradication of them is very close.
The infection rate with measles dropped during the past few years from 160 confirmed cases in 2012 to 18 cases in 2015.
Regarding mumps and rubella, the cases did not exceed 21 and seven, respectively, in 2015.
