The Joint Committee on Human Food Control recently held its first meeting following its restructuring in line with Ministerial Decision No 8 for 2016 by HE the Minister of Public Health.
The committee is headed by Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of public health at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), and includes – as members – two representatives each from all the entities and ministries concerned with human food safety, based on their experience and specialty.
The meeting, which was held at the MoPH headquarters, approved the reformation of the scientific team specialised in food control and related issues. A work team was also formed to frame the conditions for food safety.
Further, the meeting reviewed the mechanism to enhance awareness on the issue as well as transparency, besides dealing with rumours and false information that circulate on social media.
Other issues dealt with at the meeting included a strategy to further introduce the role of control entities and a discussion of the vision of the committee and its targets.
