HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani took part in meetings on the Syrian crisis in Lausanne, Switzerland, yesterday. The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif, Staffan de Mistura, UN special envoy of the secretary-general for Syria, Turkey’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh. HE Sheikh Mohamed earlier took part in a trilateral co-ordination meeting on the Syrian crisis with the Saudi and Turkish foreign ministers. A quartet co-ordination meeting was also held among HE Sheikh Mohamed, Saudi and Turkish foreign ministers and the US secretary of state ahead of the international conference. Kerry later said the Lausanne talks produced some new ideas on reviving a ceasefire in Syria. But he said it was too early to reveal what these ideas were, and that high-level contacts - but not a ministerial-level meeting - would continue tomorrow to flesh them out.
