The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) marked yesterday the World Food Day with a number of lectures by officials and experts.
The celebrations were held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi, under the theme ‘Climate is changing, Food and agriculture must too.’
Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, MME assistant undersecretary for agriculture and fisheries affairs, stressed the efforts of MME in supporting various activities of the agriculture sector in the country to guarantee food security based on the best scientific practices and principles. He also pointed out that joint group work among all stakeholders would reflect positively on preserving the natural resources of the country and mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.
Masoud Jarallah al-Marri, MME director of Agriculture Research Department, said that the department distributes seeds and seedlings free to local farmers to encourage their efforts in boosting the local production of vegetables. Besides, livestock producers are given subsidised fodder.
Other lectures were given on various agriculture issues on how to improve production and implement sophisticated technologies in the field to enhance food industry in the country. An open general discussion on the topics concluded the celebration.
