The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced a month’s closure of a car showroom in New Doha area for supplying and selling brand new cars that do not match the prescribed standard specifications.
This comes in the framework of the ministry’s intensive inspection campaigns to regulate and control the market and the state commercial activities in order to crack down on price manipulation, and disclose violations, fake and counterfeit commodities that do not conform to the standard specifications.
A disclosure violation has been issued for a month in accordance with Article No. (6) of Law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and combating commercial fraud, which states: “It is prohibited for all suppliers to sell or display or provide or promote or advertise any counterfeit or corrupted goods. A commodity is considered fake or corrupted, if they do not match the prescribed standards or unusable or expired.”
The administrative closure advertisement will be placed on the MEC website and at the expense of the car showroom in two daily newspapers in accordance with Article No (3) of Law No (8) on Consumer Protection.
The MEC stressed it will not tolerate any violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations, and intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on violations.
Those who violate laws and ministerial decrees will be referred to competent authorities, who will in turn take appropriate action against them in order to protect consumer rights.
