The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has signed an agreement with the General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to implement the “Health in the Workplace” Programme.
The MoU aims to strengthen the co-operation between MoPH and Kahramaa with a view to carrying out the events and activities of “Health in the Workplace” programme to promote the employees’ health and to raise their awareness about adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The agreement was signed by Sheikha Dr Anoud bint Mohamed al-Thani, director, Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Diseases, MoPH and Abdul Rahman Ali al-Nemaah, director, Health, Safety and Environment Department, Kahramaa.
Sheikha Anoud welcomed Kahramaa in joining the other corporations and organisations participating in the programme, noting that the number of these institutions currently exceeds 20, both from public and private sectors.
She added that MoPH is targeting the implementation of the programme at all public and private institutions, and stressed that its success will contribute to the promotion of healthy lifestyle among the employees, as well as providing a safe and healthy environment for them.
Al-Nemaah said that the signing of the agreement with MoPH comes within Kahramaa’s concern about the employees’ health, noting that ‘Health in the Workplace” is one of the distinguished programmes to enhance the employees’ health.
“Kahramaa is seeking to encourage the employees to adopt healthy lifestyles in their daily life, such as healthy nutrition, physical activity inside and outside the workplace, smoking cessation, in addition to raising the awareness about ways to overcome the daily work pressure,” added al-Nemaah.
The “Health in the Workplace” programme comes as part of MoPH’s efforts to promote the employees’ health and to achieve the National Health Strategy 2011-2016 goals to contribute to the promotion of people’s health as well as building a new generation that enjoys better health.
The programme is also a part of the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Action Plan 2011-2016 which includes lots of important projects at the national level in line with NHS goal 3 “Preventive Healthcare”, such as reducing the prevalence rate of chronic diseases and its related deaths.
