A second-half goal yesterday helped Al Kharaitiyat hold hosts Al Khor to a 1-1 draw in a round-four clash of the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
Abdulrahman Mohsen opened the scoring for Al Khor in the 35th minute but Al Kharaitiyat managed to fight back and grab an equaliser through DR Congo attacker Jeremy Bokila on the 61st minute.
Al Khor, who enjoyed more of the possession in the first 30 minutes of the game, brought the game to life with deft moves near Al Kharaitiyat box soon after the half-hour mark.
In the 32nd minute, Al Khor’s Moroccan striker Mouhcine Iajour charged with the ball into Al Kharaitiyat box but defender Domingos slipped in a neat tackle clear the ball away from his own goal-line.
With both teams struggling to break each other down, the tie threatened to boil over at times. Al Kharaitiyat’s Jeremy Bokila brought down Al Khor’s Musba al-Majeed with an extremely rough tackle in the 33rd minute, which caused a fight between the two groups of players.
In the 35th minute, Al Khor drew first blood with a bit of flair on home soil. A supercharged Iajour broke free of his marker on the left flank before advancing towards the Al Khairaitiyat box despite being shadowed by a couple of defenders.
Close to Al Kharaitiyat box, Iajour spotted an unmarked Mohsen and slipped the ball to the 25-year-old defender.
Mohsen, without wasting time, curled in a beautifully taken first-time shot which beat Al Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Ahmed Soufiane with ease. The ball swung in late before hitting the net to give Al Khor the lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half.
Making the most of a goalkeeper’s gaffe in the second half, Bokila produced the equaliser for Al Kharaitiyat at the hour-mark. Al Khor goalkeeper Baba Djibril failed to pouch a long-range shot that ducked into his own box, resulting in an ill-timed fumble.
Bokila quickly took advantage of the mistake and tapped the ball into the net to give the visitors the equaliser.
