Two key elements of the North Road Enhancement Project - the Izghawa Interchange and a bridge linking Al Huwaila Road with North Road - were opened to traffic on Saturday.

In a press statement, Ashghal stressed that the Izghawa Interchange provides a key connection to populated areas as it consists of three graded levels, ranging from single to four lanes in each direction, besides a traffic signal.
The new junction will make alternative access roads available from Lusail City to Izghawa area onto Al Shamal Road, which is supposed to be the main route to commercial projects there.
The junction will also provide better access to local roads and alleviate traffic congestion on the northern side of Doha Golf Club, West Bay, Legtaifiya, Al Khor Coastal Road and the northwestern side of Lusail Development Project, according to the statement.
The intersection will help more local access roads to ensure smooth traffic into Al Gharafa, the southwestern side of Education City, Al Khartiyat and Umm Salal Mohamed on the northwestern side.
On June 30, Ashghal had opened a new bridge at the Izghawa Interchange to traffic for commuters heading to Doha, while a road linking Al Shamal Road with Lusail City was opened on September 21.
The authority yesterday also opened a bridge linking Al Huwaila Road with North Road. The Lehwaila Interchange is composed of two separate levels with two and three lanes in each direction. The new junction links North Road with Al Huwaila Road, which was opened to traffic lately, and it would enhance traffic flow from and into the Ras Laffan area, the authority stressed.
The Lehwaila Interchange bridge will facilitate free-flowing traffic for heavy and light vehicles coming from Ras Laffan and heading towards Doha via Al Shamal Road. In addition, the intersection has service roads that connect local roads in the Al Kaaban area with Al Huwaila Road.
The opening was attended by Nasser Ghaith al-Kuwari, Expressway Department manager, Public Works Authority (Ashghal); Mubarak al-Kuwari, Al Daayen Municipality director; Mohamed Said al-Muhannadi, representative of Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality director; Rashid Taleb al-Nabet, director of the Road Transport Planning Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC); a number of MoTC officials; Captain Mohamed Misfir al-Hajri, Traffic Planning Section head at the General Traffic Department; as well as Central Municipal Council members, including Mubarak Fereesh, Rabeea Hamad al-Kaabi and Saeed Mubarak al-Rashidi.
