The Anantara Spa and the Balance Wellness Centre at Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara is offering for the first time in Qatar the natural therapy using garra ruffa or doctor fish.
“The toe-sized carp gently nibbles away rough skin from the feet of spa customers and also provide a rejuvenating effect,” said Nazely Mohamed, director of the Anantara Spa and the Balance Wellness Centre.
“The fish also clean pores and act as a micro massage for the feet and legs, improving blood circulation and providing revitalisation. Most spa visitors say the session is slightly ticklish at first, but the skin instantly becomes softer and smoother.
“Generally, spa customers are invited to place their feet and legs into a tub or tank filled with doctor fish and it does not take very long for the fish to begin chewing away at the layers of dead skin on the legs and feet.
“For spa patrons, the doctor fish are a welcome alternative to the razors and the harsh foot files often used in pedicures to exfoliate the bottom of the feet. As a matter of routine, only 15 to 20 sessions are necessary to leave skin feeling invigorated and noticeably suppler.”
The Anantara Spa and the Balance Wellness Centre offers a doctor fish inclusive treatment called Full Journey, which provides clients with a luxurious experience that includes 20 minutes of soaking the feet in the fish tank.
Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara’ can be reached in 25 minutes by luxury ferry from Al Shyoukh Terminal on Doha Corniche or a 10-minute helicopter ride directly from the airport.
