The Japanese embassy in Doha, in co-operation with the Japan Foundation, has donated a wide range of books to Qatar Public Library (Dar Al Kutub).
Japanese ambassador Shingo Tsuda handed over the books to Public Libraries and Heritage Department director Ibrahim al-Sayed at the Ministry of Culture and Sports on Sunday. The library’s supply department director Abdul Rahman al-Hatmi was present.
In a statement, the envoy expressed hopes that the donated books over the years have contributed to enrich knowledge on Japan among Qatari readers. Tsuda also stressed the importance of cultural exchange, forging the bridge
between the two nations.
The embassy noted that it has a long history of co-operation with the library. The first book donation was held in 1987, and some 1,000 books had been donated for over almost 30 years.
