Reach Out To Asia (Rota) marked the second day of the first phase of the annual Rota Youth Challenge: RYSC Leadership Training programme, which aims to equip youth in Qatar with the skills to chart their career paths and make a meaningful impact in their communities.

As part of the first day of the training on Wednesday, more than 45 female and male youth participants attended workshops on numerous leadership and business management topics including Project Management, Social Project Foundation, and Business Plan.

Hussain Habib al-Sayed, RYSC Leadership Training Programme facilitator, said: “The first day of the programme served to give participants a thorough overview of what will be required of them throughout the programme. In addition, the workshops provided them with a fundamental understanding of how to set up a successful social development project and put together a business proposal.”

Roda al-Qebaisi, said, “I am so grateful to Rota and ExxonMobil for giving me this opportunity. I feel incredibly empowered knowing that the skills we are being taught will enable me to contribute to my community and make informed career choices.”

On Thursday, the participants attended a number of team building and social development workshops. During the Social Project Management workshop they were taught how to set realistic key performance indicators and make use of specific marketing tools when setting up and managing a social development project. The second half of the workshop focused on human resource development and leadership training.

Following the workshop, more than 45 female and male youth participants were divided into groups and required to complete three different team building activities in order for programme facilitators to measure the effectiveness of each team.

Mubarak al-Sheroqi, said: “The past two days have been extremely productive - we have already learnt so many new skills. The activities have helped all participants to get to know each other better and we have learnt a great deal about becoming effective team players.”

The capacity building programme enables youth to gain core leadership, project and community service campaign management skills, and leverage their goal setting capacities while networking with peers. The first phase of the Rota Youth Challenge: Leadership Training programme, sponsored by ExxonMobil will conclude Saturday.
