21 nations confirm for Ultrarunners Championship

Teams from 21 nations have confirmed the participation of their athletes for the 2nd International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 50KM World Championship at the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) that will take place in Doha on November 11.
The IAU-accredited championship has been hosted by the Aspire Zone Foundation since 2015 and now features more than 100 of the world’s best long-distance runners competing for titles in male, female and group races.
The list of participating countries includes: Argentina, Canada, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, Uruguay, United States of America and Zimbabwe.
The IAU’s commitment to host the international championship for three consecutive years at the AZF is a testament to its trust in AZF’s capacity to organise international events, where IAU relies heavily on AZF’s organisational capabilities, world-class facilities and experts. The championship promises to be a successful competition that lives up to AZF and Qatar’s reputation as a global leader in organising sporting events.
In parallel, the AZF has extended the Aspire International 6:50KM Race registration window until today. This will allow enthusiasts across Qatar the opportunity to run alongside IAU professional long-distance ultrarunners. The Aspire International 6:50KM is a 50km individual race with team relays (5 persons) in a multi-lap format, designed to challenge runners to complete 50KM in 6 hours.
A new Fan Zone will include a myriad of activities for all family members such as henna drawing, face painting for children, and a tent that gives visitors a glimpse into a life in the desert.
The redesigned race course comprises tarmac, tile and paved roads, which will be closed to traffic and well-lit for the duration of the evening race. In essence, this should be quite a fast course with little gradient change and most turns being wide in nature.
AZF has partnered with the Qatar Athletic Federation (QAF), organising partner, the Movenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah as the hospitality partner, and Qatar Living social network as the community partner for the event. For more information and community registration please visit: www.lifeinaspire.qa
