About 70,000 children have been administered the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination so far across schools, primary healthcare centres, Qatar Petroleum health facilities,Sidra Medical and Research Center and several private health facilities. The total number of schools covered to date is 131 with 101 government and Independent schools and 30 private schools.
The National vaccination campaign has already entered the third week of the campaign and it will get over by November 14.Teams from the Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation and Hamad Medical Corporation are continuing their activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The campaign has been receiving great attention and interest from the leaders and officials of the Ministry of Public Health. Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of Public Health at the ministry visited one of the private schools yesterday to assess the activities of the campaign. He appreciated the progress of the campaign and praised the commitment of the medical teams in the vaccine administration as there was no significant adverse events so far among the vaccinated children.
The American Communicable Disease Centre has been providing technical support to the ministry through their experts who are in Qatar just for the campaign. They have been providing support and assistance to the ministry's experts and the vaccinating teams daily through visits to various schools and medical facilities sharing their expertise to ensure the success of the campaign.
This national vaccination campaign supports Qatar’s efforts to reach the World Health Organisation target of Measles elimination by the year 2020.
