Security equipment, vehicles and applications for the use of the region's homeland and internal security are showcased as the 11th Milipol Qatar which got underway at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on Monday.
The three-day exhibition, held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani was inaugurated by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani in the presence of many high ranking ministers from across the Arab Region.
The visiting dignitaries included Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohamed Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, Oman's Interior Minister Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Algeria's Interior and Local Communities Minister Noureddine Badawi, Tunisia's Interior Minister Hédi Mejdoub, Arab Interior Ministers' Council Secretary General Mohamed bin Ali Koman, and Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Police Lieutenant General Aliyev Ismat among others.
The organisers said more than 230 companies from about 35 countries are participating. Milipol, which takes place once in two years in Doha, provides access to the region's security markets and enables some of the major industry players to forge partnerships and discuss long term and short term economic and strategic projects in internal security, with local and regional forces.
Soon after the formal inauguration, HE Sheikh Abdullah and other dignitaries toured the exhibition. While listening to the exhibitors' briefings some of the visiting dignitaries showed keen interest to learn about the applications of equipment, advanced technologies, integration of a host of security systems to strengthening internal security, prevention and protection of crimes.
HE Sheikh Abdullah termed Milipol Qatar as the manifestation of extensive partnership and collaboration between Qatar's Ministry of Interior and Milipol France over the years.
HE the Prime Minister also expressed happiness at the high quality of participation in the latest edition and said it reflected the success of Qatar in attracting reputable firms and institutions focusing on homeland security and civil defense services and systems.
He hoped the exhibitors and participants would be able to effectively demonstrate many of their latest possessions for meeting the urgent and essential requirements of the region's security.
The exhibition features international pavilions of France, Germany, the US, China and the UK. Maiden participants are Algeria, Uganda, Lithuania, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Pakistan, Belize, and Jordan. A large number of Qatar firms and institutions are also participating.
This year, Milipol Qatar features a number of leading industry experts specialised in providing solutions and applications to the requirements of the region's internal security forces.
Alongside the expo, seminars and discussions on such areas as crisis management and resilience, safe/smart cities and large events security management, and critical infrastructure protection – cyber threat intelligence.
