SDC marks 20 years of development initiatives
Under the theme “20 years of Pioneering Community Development Initiatives”, the Social Development Centre (SDC) is launching its new visual identity and 2016-2020 strategy at a ceremony today at the Qatar National Convention Centre. This comes as part of the SDC’s continuous pursuit to develop the community services it delivers. The SDC said in a press statement that it had spared no effort since 1996 “to build a stable, self-reliant family concept that contributes to the development of society by empowering low-income and limited-capacity families with the skills necessary to compete in the labour market and improve their quality of life”.

UN General Assembly holds special session
The United Nations General Assembly yesterday held a special session to offer condolences on the death of HH the Grandfather Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani. Peter Thomson, the president of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, opened the session to extend condolences on the death of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani to Qatar’s leadership, government and people. He praised HH the Grandfather Emir’s role in Qatar’s development and prosperity. Member states’ delegates of the General Assembly observed a minute of silence in memory of HH the Grandfather Emir.
