The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) is partnering with the Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre (QTTSC) at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) on projects and initiatives related to traffic safety.
“The collaboration contributes to leading several programmes in areas that benefit the society in Qatar and Malaysia,” said MIROS director-general Dr Shaw Voon Wong.
He was delivering a presentation recently at QU on Malaysian traffic safety rules,
conditions and developments.
The event brought together experts from CENG, QTTSC, MIROS, the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Mowasalat. It aimed to exchange information in policies, strategies and technologies of traffic safety.
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham was joined at the event by CENG dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, Traffic Department director Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji and NTSC general secretary Brigadier Mohamed al-Malki, as well as CENG faculty and staff and representatives from the Traffic Department.
Dr al-Khalifa said the event comes in line with CENG’s efforts to raise community awareness of the importance of traffic safety. “The college is committed to strengthening its research collaborations with government and private institutions in Qatar, and to spreading knowledge on road safety and accident prevention through a wide range of studies and research that identify the causes of accidents and the critical factors that have an
impact on accident reduction.”
Brigadier al-Kharji expressed gratitude to QU for its continuous support in providing communication and consultations with the Traffic Department, and in developing various road safety initiatives. He also noted the importance of fostering the efforts of both parties to raise the community’s awareness of Qatar’s traffic safety challenges. “These workshops make a strong addition to our efforts to better respond to these challenges,” he said.
Brigadier al-Malki noted, “We would like to express our gratitude to QTTSC for the great efforts made in these workshops and events, which add value to our previous training and
activities on road safety.”
