KINDI Centre for Computing Research at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) hosted “UK-Qatar Cyber Security Workshop on Adaptive Information Security” in conjunction with CENG Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and Open University (UK).

The event aimed to bring together researchers, educators and industry partners in the field of cyber security to share their experiences on cyber security research and to identify opportunities for collaboration.
Attendees included KINDI Centre for Computing Research director Prof Abbes Amira, CENG Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) head Dr Sumaya al-Madeed, QNRF ICT Programme manager Dr Munir Tag, and Open University professor of computing Prof Bashar Nusiebeh, senior lecturer in computing Dr Arosha Bandara, senior lecturer in computing Dr Yijun Yu and computing researcher Dr Thein Thun, as well as CENG faculty and staff.
Dr al-Madeed delivered the welcome speech and Prof Abbes Amira gave the opening remarks. Keynote speakers were Dr Marc Dacier, Cyber Security Group Research Director at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), and Prof Ernesto Damiani, chair of the Information Security Group at Khalifa University. They presented “IoT security: what are we talking about?” and “Controlling Data Leakage and Theft in Big Data Applications”.
CENG dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa said: “Cyber security is a growing challenge in Qatar and is an international issue that affects everyone. In hosting such an event, CENG is demonstrating its ongoing efforts to strengthen collaborations with local and international institutions and to promote research that provides efficient solutions to tackle the numerous challenges in the area of cyber security.”
Prof Abbes Amira explained that the event was customised to address the needs of commercial organisations and the general population in the Gulf region.
"We are looking at ways to improve cyber security practices for individuals and organisations in coordination with partners from various countries to offer the society in Qatar and the region high-quality research that increases community awareness on the importance of securing our connectedness as a society.”
