The health control section of Wakrah Municipality conducted 260 inspection tours in October, with the inspectors making 1,410 field visits to various food establishments.
These resulted in the issuance of 51 instant violation reports for non-compliance with law No.3 for 1975 on commercial, industrial and similar entities that conduct business with the public and eight violations for flouting law No.8 for 1990 on the regulation of human food control.
Fines amounting to QR165,700 were collected in connection with these violations, according to a statement of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The section also received and addressed 11 related complaints during the same period.
Also, 970kg of foodstuff were destroyed by the inspectors for being unfit for human consumption. Also, 26 samples of various food products were sent for laboratory tests to check their validity.
Meanwhile, the MME's agriculture quarantine department inspected and tested 6,139 consignments of various imported agricultural products weighing around 70,478 tonnes in October. Some 90 consignments of these, weighing nearly 232 tonnes, were destroyed for being infected with bugs.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan Municipality's cleaning section handled 1,248 requests for pest control and 36 for rodent control in October. It also conducted 1,352 regular pest and rodent control operations.
Besides, the section carried out decoration works at various locations within the municipality's jurisdiction.
The public gardens department at the MME has decorated the entrance of the Qatar News Agency (QNA) headquarters in Dafna with seasonal flowers and plants.
