The 41 participants joining the programme represent seven nationalities, including American, Egyptian, Indian, Lebanese, Saudi, Yemeni, with the majority being Qatari.
Women have consistently been a significant group in this programme and this year’s intake has an “exceptionally high” representation at 61%, HEC Paris in Qatar has said in a press statement.
The average age of the class is 32 years.
“It is a pleasure to welcome the Class of 2018 to HEC Paris in Qatar. This intake represents a diverse range of industries and personal backgrounds, showcasing the versatility of our programmes,” said Nils Plambeck, dean and CEO of HEC Paris in Qatar.
“An exciting aspect this year is that around 90% of this intake is self-funded. The level of commitment from these individuals on furthering their own knowledge emphasises the importance education has on a knowledge-based economy,” he added.
Participants are from diverse industries such as finance, construction, engineering, health and social services, management consultancy, oil & gas, the public sector, not-for-profit organisations, research & development, telecommunications and others.
The launch event included a programme presentation by Prof Wolfgang Amann, academic director of the programme.
The new cohort was welcomed with keynote addresses provided by distinguished HEC Paris alumni Mohamed al-Jefairi, CEO at Create Creativity and Mais Taha, senior reservoir engineer at Maersk Oil.
The Specialised Master is designed to equip participants with greater knowledge and understanding to drive their own business forward and approach current and future challenges decisively.
The programme “underlines HEC Paris’ commitment to contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy in Qatar and strengthen corporate competitiveness in the region”, the statement adds.
