Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday visited Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Jail Memorial Museum and Four National Leaders Jail Memorial Museum inside the former Dhaka
Central Jail in the capital.
Sheikh Hasina, the elder daughter of Bangabandhu, became very emotional after witnessing various items Bangabandhu had used while in prison during the
Pakistani rule.
Accompanied by Sheikh Rehana, the younger daughter of Bangabandhu, the prime minister arrived at the former Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road amid incessant rain and paid tributes to the Father of the Nation and the four national leaders.
After arrival at the museum, the premier first placed a wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Jail Memorial Museum and stayed there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the architect of independence.
After placing the wreath, Hasina visited the prison cell where the Father of the Nation had been kept for a long time during the Pakistan rule.
The prison cell has now been named the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Jail Memorial
Museum.
She later went round the gallery in the prison cell that bears the memory of Bangabandhu.
Both Hasina and Rehana, who survived the August 15 carnage of 1975 as they were abroad, became emotional witnessing the things Bangabandhu used during his
prison time.
Later, the prime minister went to the prison cell where four national leaders – Tajuddin Ahmed, Syed Nazrul Islam, Captain Monsur Ali and A H M Qamaruzzaman – were brutally killed on November 3, 1975.
She laid wreaths at the busts of the four national leaders and stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of deep homage to the memory of the four national leaders.
