Strong winds, poor visibility in some areas predicted

Strong winds are expected in the northern parts of Qatar today along with poor visibility in some places in the early hours of the day, the Met department has said.
Offshore areas, too, may experience strong winds along with high seas by this noon. The wind speed may go up to 25 knots in inshore areas towards the north and 28 knots in offshore areas, while visibility may drop to 2km or less in some places at first. The sea level, meanwhile, is expected to rise
to 6-9ft.
On Saturday, the Met department had said strong winds, low visibility due to dust and a dip in temperature were expected in Qatar over the coming days. It had also issued a warning for offshore areas during this period.
Weather charts also indicate that the mercury level has dropped significantly in some places and more areas are likely to see lower temperatures over the next few days.
For instance, Abu Samra recorded a minimum temperature of 16C yesterday as compared to 22C on Saturday and 24C on Friday. Similarly, Al Khor had a minimum of 16C yesterday, dropping from 19C on Saturday and 23C on Friday.
Today, the minimum temperature is expected to be 17C in Abu Samra, 18C in Al Khor and 19C in Mesaieed, Wakrah and Dukhan. In Doha, it is likely to be 24C.
On the other hand, a maximum temperature of 36C was recorded in the Qatar University area and Al Rayyan yesterday, followed by 35C in the Doha airport area, Al Sheehaniya, Al Khor and other places. The maximum temperature is expected to be 33C in Doha and Al Khor today.

Fog alert
The Met department has issued safe-driving tips for motorists, in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior, in view of the foggy conditions experienced across the country.
Dense fog was reported from several places yesterday, which resulted in low visibility along with a number of roads. The safe-driving tips in foggy conditions include keeping more distance than usual between vehicles, avoiding manoeuvres such as passing and overtaking, sticking to one’s lane, pulling off the road and parking at a safe spot if the fog is too dense, and using fog lights and low-beam headlights instead of high-beam or hazard lights.
